Torn by Rowena Miller
I started this book quite a while ago. I’m listening to it on Audible and was enjoying it for a while…. then I heard about another book and have not picked this one up again. I want to finish it because it is the first one in a series and I was enjoying it. Maybe I can finish it this weekend? Maybe????!!!!!
In this book we follow Sophie, a dressmaker and charm caster. Sophie and her brother live alone after the death of their parents and they survive off mostly from Sophie’s shop where she makes beautiful gowns and other articles of clothing for the rich people of the nation which she imbeds with charms and spells. Her shop is thriving and the nobility is seeking her out to have her dress them with her “special” gowns.
Kristos, Sophie’s brother, rises to prominence in a revolt of the people and the two are involved into a deadly magical unrest. Sophie has to decide between her family and her future…..
I really must finish this book. I still have 12 hours remaining …… Maybe not this weekend, it appears.
Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I don’t think I have to tell you what this series is about. However, I do want to tell you why I’m late for the party. When the series started on HBO was not interested in reading or watching the show. I don’t have HBO and honestly the violence I was told existed in this story (and it does) was not something I wanted to deal with. A few months ago, while speaking with a friend of mine about Tolkien and Lord of the Rings I was told that I would like this story and …… Yeah……. It is violent and it is a bit distressing at times but ….. wow I’m really enjoying it. I’m listening to it on Audible and also reading it on iBooks (I’m not liking iBooks but that’s a post for a different day). This book is the reason I have not been listen to Torn (see above). I want to finish at least the first book before I watch the movie…… I’ll keep you posted.
Trail of Lighting by Rebecca Roanhorse
I didn’t mean to get this book but yesterday I was trying to organize my GoodReads (follow me there) and went down the rabbit hole of #booktube SFF Awards 2019. There is a “read along” this month on this story and so …. well, I just had to pick it up. I got it on my Kindle (liking it much better than iBooks) and …. well….. here we are.
Reading three books this weekend is not going to be pretty because I know that I will probably not finish either of them and next week I’ll be all mad and reporting the same thing again.
I had another book on my list which is something I received from a publisher but I’m not going to be able to do this review since I’m not able to get into the book. I still have a bit of time so I’m going to give myself a few more days to pick that book up again but if I can’t do it I’ll just have to move on. I refuse to review books that I cannot give three or more stars. We will see and if I wind up reviewing it you will see it posted here.
So this is my reading for the weekend. It’s raining so it’ll be a really nice day to sit inside with a cup of tea or …. well….. anything really and just enjoy escaping to different worlds. hmmmm not sure these are the worlds I want to escape to but they are all certainly different from the one I live in right now.
Hope you enjoy your weekend. See you soon.
